Power Chevrolet Irvine Receives Sales Record Award General Motors Honors Southern California's Largest Chevy Dealer

Oct 17, 2003

Power Chevrolet Irvine, the largest Chevrolet dealer in Southern California, has been honored by General Motors as one of the best performing Chevrolet dealers in the nation. GM presented the dealership with an "All Time Sales Record" award in recognition of Power's 497 new vehicle sales in August, the fifth highest monthly sales volume of any dealer nationwide.

"This is the first time any GM dealer in Orange County has ever achieved a sales figure at this level," said Larry Smith, general manager of Power Chevrolet Irvine. "It's particularly significant when you consider that Southern California is the nation's largest automobile market."

The award was presented to the dealership's management and staff by Chip Zimmer, General Motors' area sales manager, in a formal ceremony on Wednesday, October 8th. The ceremony took place on the dealership's grounds at 21 Auto Center Drive within the Irvine Auto Center.

Power Chevrolet Irvine is one of six Chevrolet retailers that banded together earlier this year, joining more than 40 dealerships in the area to operate as the Power Automotive Group. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Fort Lauderdale-based AutoNation, the world's largest retailer of new and used vehicles. The Power dealerships and the Texas-based Champion Automotive Group became AutoNation's newest branded markets, giving AutoNation a unified brand presence in 12 of the country's largest markets.

"We are proud to see that customers have responded enthusiastically to the branding strategy," said Michael Maroone, AutoNation's president and chief operating officer. "This award is a confirmation that customers recognize the efforts we've made to lead the market in pricing, selection and service."

Maroone and Smith both also stressed that strong support from General Motors has been instrumental in the dealership's success. "With GM's continued assistance," Smith said, "we plan on breaking even more records and holding on to the title of Southern California's volume leader for a long, long time."
