Maroone Dealerships Sponsor High School Sing-Off; $50,000 in Prizes Offered to South Florida's Best Young Voices

Nov 20, 2003

Looking for the most talented young vocalists in South Florida? Who you gonna call? Maroone! That's because Maroone automotive dealerships, South Florida's leading retailer of new and used vehicles, is sponsoring its first- ever $50,000 High School Sing-Off.

The contest runs between December, 2003, and February, 2004, and will offer groups from high schools in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties the opportunity to showcase their talents and win serious cash. The first-place finishers will receive a $25,000 donation to their school, plus an appearance in a Maroone "Who You Gonna Call" television commercial. The second-place finisher gets a $15,000 donation, third place earns $5,000, fourth receives $3,000, fifth gets $2,000 and the sixth- through tenth-place finishers will each win $1,000. Prize funds will be provided by Maroone Automotive Group, a regional division of AutoNation, Inc., along with select AutoNation business partners.

The rules are simple: No instruments are allowed. Groups must have a minimum of 10 performers. And there's only one song to sing: The "Who You Gonna Call?" theme from the popular Maroone television and radio commercials. Participating groups must submit a taped performance by December 5th, and from these tapes, finalists will be selected for live, head-to-head competitions at Maroone dealerships throughout the South Florida area between January 10th and January 24th, 2004.

Participants will be judged on presentation, creativity, musical performance and originality. Those schools with the right combination of talent and showmanship in the preliminary rounds will win the opportunity to perform on January 28th for a panel that includes local and national celebrities. These judges will narrow down the field even further, choosing their four favorite groups to advance. A television commercial featuring each of these groups will then be aired across South Florida, giving local residents the last word on which school takes the top honors. Online and in-store voting will be open to the public until February 2nd, and the grand-prize-winning group will be featured solo in a new commercial that begins airing immediately.
